Meet our Instructors

Jesse Factor received a scholarship to the Martha Graham School, and danced with the Martha Graham Dance Company and Graham II in the iconic Graham repertory, as well as work by Robert Battle, Stuart Hodes, Larry Keigwin, and Bulareyaung Pagarlava. He has also toured internationally with Cats, and in Europe with Cabaret. A certified teacher of the Graham technique, he has served on the faculty of the Martha Graham School for several years. He has also served as Artist-in-Residence at the Marymount School of New York, taught guest classes at Peridance Capezio Center, Point Park University, University of Buffalo, Dance Exchange, and worked as a teaching artist for the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) in Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, Moscow, Shanghai.

Autumn Eckman is currently an MFA Candidate in Choreography at the University of Iowa. Prior to her studies she was an Instructor of Dance from 2009- 2015 at Northern Illinois University.She is a former dancer for companies including State Street Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Luna Negra Dance Theater, Giordano Dance Chicago, Lucky Plush Productions and Ron De Jesus Dance. She is currently a member of the The Cambrians. Autumn's directorial credits include: Director of Giordano II and Assistant Artistic Director/Resident Choreographer of Giordano Dance Chicago. As the 2014 Artist-In-Residence for State Street Ballet she recreated a full length version of the ballet, Scheherazade. She has created original works on companies including DanceWorks Chicago, Visceral Dance Chicago, Missouri Contemporary Ballet and the Big Muddy Dance Company and was a recipient of the 2013 Choreographic Fellowship at the University of Kansas. Dance Magazine's Wendy Perron named her work "JOLT" for the Giordano company as a Top Pick of 2012. She was named a " Top Player in the Arts" in Newcity Publication, a "Stand-Out Choreographer" in the Chicago Tribune, and an awardee of " New Choreographic Voice" for Dance Chicago.

A’Keitha Carey is a Bahamian Dance Educator, Performance Artist, Choreographer and Scholar.  She is on the faculty at the University of Utah as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance in the Modern Dance Department.  She received a BA in Dance from the  Florida International University and an M.F.A. in Dance from Florida State University.  She is a scholar in dance and Women’s Studies, earning a certificate in the latter and working as a doctoral candidate in dance  at the Texas Woman's University.

Carey created the genre of CaribFunk Technique over 10 years ago when she was a young teacher and choreographer living in Miami, Florida.   Her article  “CaribFunk Technique: Afro Caribbean Dance, Caribbean Feminism and Popular Culture” was published in the Journal of Pan-African Studies.

Trea Champagne is an instructor of traditional and contemporary Irish step dance, Irish ceili dance, and the owner of the Champagne Academy of Irish Dance based in Eastern Iowa. She started learning traditional Irish dance and music at a very young age from her family, but was also a competitive Irish dancer for many years with Scoil na d’Tri Academy of Irish Dance with Brenda Buckley TCRG and Joe Richter TMRF in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.  Ms. Champagne continued to teach and perform after her competitive years and has danced professionally for many national and international traditional Irish musicians.  She continues her work with her own dancers, but also provides choreography to other Irish dance instructors internationally.  Ms. Champagne is also under guidance from and a TCRG Candidate with An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha Dublin, Ireland.
 

Iowa Dance 2016 is one of nine festivals recognized in the US by the International Dance Council of UNESCO in 2014 and 2015
