The Story of Iowa Dance

In 2007, a group of Iowa City/Coralville dancers, choreographers and supporters came together to create a yearly dance performance and outreach program to enlighten, entertain and inspire local audiences.  The yearly event first took on the title, Iowa Dance Fest and the month of April was chosen for the celebration to coincide with International Dance Day and National Dance week.  Later the event changed its name to Iowa Dance.

Iowa Dance and the Iowa Dance Fest have always contained an educational component with free performances to local school children, free workshops to area dancers and comp tickets to local kids who want to attend the concert performance, but can’t afford the price of admission.  This coming year, Iowa Dance takes the form of a festival and will present preview performances in downtown Iowa City locations to show the beauty and importance of dance here in Iowa.

This event is hosted by volunteers who work tirelessly to promote dance at the local level, giving rich experiences to local audiences.  It could not happen without the support of people who give so generously to this event.  If you are a current supporter, thank you.  If you just found out about Iowa Dance, come say hi to us, dance, watch, enjoy.
